Inclusion & Learning Support

Star International School, Mirdif prides itself on being an inclusive school. Our school aims to provide all students with the opportunity to achieve their best; academically, emotionally and socially. We welcome children with a range of learning backgrounds, including students of determination, students who are gifted, talented and students who are EAL learners.

Star, Mirdif, embraces and promotes inclusive education and has team members who are trained and equipped in handling learners regardless of their ability or background.

Star, Mirdif, actively seeks to recognise and meet the diverse needs of our students, as part of our commitment to provide a community of learners where parents, teachers and children work together as a team to enable the development of our students’ skills to the best of their abilities and to reach their full potential.

A robust process from identification to intervention is organised and adopted for our students of determination to ensure that provisions are planned upon entry to the classrooms. We provide the highest quality of teaching using a rich variety of resources and technology to encourage our students to develop a greater appreciation and understanding of a wide variety of cultures and traditions, yet still highly value the family school atmosphere in which they will feel accepted, secure and recognised as individuals.

The Inclusion classroom

We have created purposeful rooms where the inclusion department can work with children who may need smaller group sessions. We are an inclusive school, so do not remove children from lessons, unless it is beneficial to their individual development. This is generally done at the end of specific lessons or in specialist lessons that the children may not go to - depending on their needs. Experienced LSAs work with the children to develop their social skills and physical development where needed, ensuring the children have the opportunity to work towards individual targets.

The room has a variety of resources which support the LSAs in their strategies and also allows the children to develop at their own pace.

The Sensory Room

In October 2024 we will be launching our sensory room, a unique offering that few schools in Dubai can offer. This has been created to support the inclusion department with the work they need to do with specific children, but also allows us to develop the wellbeing of all students within the school. There will be textured walls, varied seating choices and lava lamps, which are used to support the children where needed. The room will continue to be developed, based on the needs of the students within the school.
