Zoe Sutcliffe

Secondary Assistant Headteacher for Curriculum and Head of Secondary English

I am thrilled to commence my third year at Star Mirdif International School, this year embracing a new and exhilarating role.  My educational philosophy will focus on the development of the Awe and Wonder Curriculum that ignites curiosity and fascination in our students, promoting a lifelong love for learning. Star Mirdif fosters an extraordinary community where our dedicated staff, students, and parents collaborate to offer exceptional learning experiences for our students. Star Secondary provides an extensive range of educational opportunities, allowing students to explore various academic disciplines and discover their interests and strengths.

I graduated Liverpool Hope University with a BA Hons in English Literature and then remained on campus to achieve my PGCSE and QTS. Due to my passion for education, I pursued a career in teaching immediately after obtaining my degree.

With a decade of experience in the education field, I had the opportunity to work in two academies in the UK, before relocating to Dubai. Throughout my career, I have spent a total of five years as the Head of English, preceded by roles as the Assistant Head of English and Head of House. Additionally, I held the responsibility of mentoring newly qualified and training teachers. Over the past five years, as a department leader, I have dedicated myself to the continuous enhancement of a curriculum that caters to the diverse needs and abilities of all students. It has been my utmost priority to create a curriculum that not only fosters accessibility, but also captivates and inspires every student, transcending their expectations and surpassing their prior limitations. Moreover, I have - and will continue to - ensure that our curriculum endeavors to instill in students an unwavering commitment to learning, while concurrently nurturing their self-assurance and perseverance in the realm of education.

I possess a genuine passion for traveling and make it a point to embark on adventures during each school holiday. In the two years since moving to Dubai, I have had the opportunity to explore a range of destinations such as the Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kenya, Singapore, Bali, and Croatia. This academic year, I am hoping to visit Zanzibar, Nepal, the Philippines, and South Africa. Beyond my love for travel, I am an avid reader, particularly drawn to thrilling genres, and thoroughly enjoy attending the theatre. Furthermore, I proudly consider myself a ‘foodie’, consistently seeking out (and indulging!) in the exceptional culinary offerings that Dubai has to offer.
