Our curriculum

The primary curriculum consists of two distinctly defined stages, and within the British school system, it not only supports academic progress but also encourages children's creativity and personal development.

Key Stage 1 – Year 1 and Year 2

In these first two years of primary education, kids can strongly establish their backgrounds with the help of:

  • Phonics, reading, and writing
  • Mathematics and science
  • Physical education and swimming
  • Music, art, computing, and design
  • French and Arabic
  • Moral, social, and cultural education
Key Stage 1 – Year 1 and Year 2

Key Stage 2 – Year 3 to Year 6

As children move into the upper primary phase, the curriculum expands to include:

  • Advanced literacy and numeracy
  • Science and humanities
  • Physical education, swimming, and creative arts
  • STEAM+ and performing arts
  • Food technology from Year 5

This structured progression ensures continuity and prepares children effectively for junior and secondary education within primary schools in Dubai.

Tracking progress Transitioning from Primary to Secondary

Tracking progress

Children’s progress is monitored through regular assessment and teacher observation. The GL Progress Tests are made to measure the children's attainment every summer from Year 2 to Year 6. The CAT4 assessments in Years 3–6 help establish the strengths and areas to be developed, whilst the Year 1 phonics screening is done to assist the children's early reading skills. The second type of assessment is conducted every term, and daily AfL techniques used in class allow teaching to take place according to each child's needs. The custom targets provide the children with a clear vision and steady progress through the primary years.

Transitioning from Primary to Secondary

A structured transition programme supports children academically, socially, and emotionally as they move into Secondary School. The transition days for Year 6 allow the children to get acquainted with their new teachers and new environment, and even attend a mock lesson in the secondary school. The teaching teams work hand-in-hand to pass on the academic data, making sure that the support continues. A targeted PSHE programme is used to teach the children how to be resilient, well-organised, and manage their time. Parents get support in the form of advice and transition resources.

A typical day at school in our British Curriculum Primary School

Daily life at Star International School, Mirdif, follows a structured and balanced routine that supports learning and wellbeing. Though minor changes in time might exist among various year groups, the daily plan of this Dubai-based primary school guarantees constant support for the children's mental health, participation, and learning.

Since joining Star, my child has grown so much. The teachers are always kind, approachable, and ready to support both the children and parents. I love how the school focuses on learning through hands-on experiences. It keeps my child curious and excited to discover new things. I’m really happy with the education my child is getting here.
