Assistant Headteacher for Learning and Teaching, Head of Expressive Arts & Art Teacher

I joined Star International School in 2020 as Head of Art and form tutor in the growing secondary school. Over time, my responsibilities expanded, and I took on the role of Head of Faculty of the Expressive Arts, overseeing Art, Music and Drama across the whole school, as well as leading in Moral Education. I now oversee Learning and Teaching across the secondary school .

My educational background began at Limerick School of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree (B.A (Hons)) in Fine Art from. From there, I obtained a First Class Honours Professional Masters in Education (PME) from University College Cork in Ireland. I was awards the Marshall Hutson Award for “Best Masters Education Student”, finishing top of my class with receiving First Class Honors on my research in education thesis. 

Overall, I have worked in education for the past 10 years, across the UAE, the UK, and my home country, Ireland. Over the years I have gained a variety of experience from inside the classroom and beyond. My educational philosophy is always to cultivate creativity, self-belief, and curiosity in learning to allow students’ achieve their personal best in all aspects of their educational journey. 

I also firmly believe that creativity and creative expression in all forms, is essential for students' holistic development and should be celebrated throughout educational institutions. I am deeply committed to our students' well-being, support, which has remained central to every role I have undertaken. I am looking forward to advancing Learning and Teaching practices throughout secondary school at Star International School Mirdif. I am eager to incorporate contemporary research to deliver amazing learning experiences for our students. I am also looking forward to guiding our staff through their professional development to become exceptional facilitators of learning inside the classroom and beyond.

Outside of school, I work as part of a creative events team, bringing creativity and new artistic processes to the wider UAE community. I am also busy developing my own artistic practice and am currently working on an exciting solo exhibition!
