Primary Assistant Head

I am excited to start my 4th year at Star International, Mirdif, as Assistant Head of Primary. I am a deeply committed teacher and leader who views education as a means to nurture not only academic growth but also personal, emotional and social development. My teaching philosophy centres around understanding the needs of each student and consistently working towards creating an environment where students can develop their cognitive, emotional and interpersonal skills. I believe in nurturing a love for learning, fostering self-confidence and empowering students to become lifelong learners who are equipped to achieve their full potential.

My higher-level education began at University College Dublin, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Sociology and Information Studies. Following this, I worked in various schools in Dublin, Ireland, where I discovered my passion and love for teaching. I then went on to obtain my PGCE and QTS at London South Bank Unversity.

I have worked in education for the past 18 years, and before moving to Dubai in 2008, I taught in London at a deprived inner-city primary school. This transformative experience shaped my teaching philosophy and equipped me with the drive to make a lasting difference in students' lives. Choosing to move to Dubai to teach was based on fulfilling a lifelong dream to live abroad and to fuel my desire to experience different cultures and lifestyles.

Throughout my 15 years of teaching in Dubai, I have gained experience in both curriculum and pastoral leadership roles. I have taught across phases and developed as a leader, leading subject areas, year groups, key stages and supporting the development of the curriculum. I have also been part of the teaching training program for Zayed University, holding the responsibility of mentoring newly qualified and training teachers. Empowering new teachers with the tools to succeed was an incredibly rewarding endeavour.

Beyond the classroom, you will find me being a busy Mum of two, spending weekends at the beach or enjoying evenings with friends and family. I have a love of travel and look forward to showing my children parts of the world that I have been fortunate to visit since living in Dubai.
